ANNETTE THE CATECHIST
LIVING THE
CATHOLIC TRUTH
HOW CAN WE BEST LIVE THE MASS?
there is POWER in the MASS!
There Is a Man on the Cross
by Elizabeth Cheney
Whenever there is silence around me
By day or by night—
I am startled by a cry.
It came down from the cross—
The first time I heard it.
I went out and searched—
And found a man in the throes of crucifixion,
And I said, “I will take you down,”
And I tried to take the nails out of his feet.
But he said, “Let them be,
For I cannot be taken down
Until every man, every woman, and every child
Come together to take me down.”
And I said, “But I cannot bear your cry.
What can I do?”
And he said, “Go about the world—
Tell everyone that you meet—
There is a man on the cross.”
Emmaus Mass
Come walk with us friend
The road is long
It seems like the end
And all has gone wrong
You seem not to know
What has happened here
We are somewhat lost,
Many are filled with fear
Come stay with us friend
As we remember the cross
He was a friend of ours
And it was a great loss
Come eat with us friend
The night’s dark and scary
A stranger could appear
You must be quite wary
Who are you Friend?
It seems You led us here
As you blessed the bread
Away flew our fear
You are truly our Friend!
Our eyes are open wide!
The Blessed One, broken
You are here by our side!
Please lead us our Friend
To the Most Sacred Feast
Guide us as we worship
As Your word becomes yeast
We will join other friends
Who have come to renew
Grace free for our souls
From none other but You.

WHO AM I TO JUDGE?
ARE YOU A THERMOMETER
OR A THERMOSTAT?
This may seem a silly question to ask but once asked is worth reflecting on until you can make a bit of a decision. First, a thermometer will tell us what the temperature is, where the thermometer happens to be at that moment. If you are here in Texas during the summer that can be over one hundred degrees for days on end. If of course it is the middle of winter you could have seen temperatures below twenty degrees. As a thermometer you cannot change the temperature. You merely reflect what is going on around you. Second, if you are a thermostat, you can make a difference in your surroundings. If you are situated properly you can cause things to warm up or cool down.
So, once again I ask, are you a thermometer, merely reflecting what is going on around you. Do you really make a difference at all. Do you just rise or descend with what is going on around you. OR Are you a thermostat; do you make a difference in the world? Do you change what is going on around you; bringing comfort to those who need it by sharing the power that comes only from our God.
WELL?
